Addictions exert great power. Cravings, urges, and obsessions can control people. One might want to blame heredity, family, work, or life. And all of these can influence. But each of us has an independent identity that makes choices. It is that identity that decides it wants to become free of addiction. It is that identity that reaches out for help to become sober.
Said a wise man:
“Of course our genes, circumstances, and environments matter very much, and they shape us significantly. Yet there remains an inner zone in which we are sovereign, unless we abdicate. In this zone lies the essence of our individuality and our personal accountability.” ~ Neal A. Maxwell
While one may not be able to recover from addiction by his or herself, one can choose to reach out for the help to change. So exercise that part of you that is the true you get the help you need.Regain Hope
