Lessons from Moses and the Israelites
- The Israelites’ hearts had not been fully converted to the God of Moses. Thus, when he was gone, they returned to what they had known before, even idol gods. Similarly, those who are addicted, until they have fully changed, can likewise benefit from the help of a committed friend, loved one or professional to keep them doing what they need to to remain sober. In essence, they need Allies.
- Aaron gave in to the peer pressure of the Israelites. Those who have experienced addiction need to be sure to stay away from those who would pressure or influence them to return to the addiction.
- An addiction is like worshiping a golden calf: it is a false substitute that leads people away from those things that will truly enrich and bless their lives.
